Two Doors
I spent much of my life
by the swinging doors
yearning for a glimpse
of what will come after
and what came before.
Saw eternity
in a newborn's face
and supreme fulfillment
in a fresh corpse's gaze;
Which was more lovely
and transcendent
and transcendent
I cannot say.
But somewhere along
the way I learned
the way I learned
the present matters
most—and this
most—and this
is where I resolved
to stay.
to stay.
Later, summoned back
to the swinging door,
I realize we are
I realize we are
so much more
than these bodies
that carry us through
than these bodies
that carry us through
time and space
So let's live more
courageously,
playfully,
magnificently
magnificently
here, in between
the two doors.
